Band Sawmills

There is a wide variety of portable band sawmill manufacturers. This seems to be the most common type of portable sawmill. Very simply they consist of a saw head that has 2 band wheels on which a flexible steel band blade tracks around the wheels. This saw head is pushed along a track and into the log that has been positioned on the log bed.

Swing Blade Sawmills

This allows the operator to cut while pushing the saw head forward as well as while pulling the saw head back.

Advantages of this mill are many, yet there are some disadvantages. A swing blade mill can produce from 100 to 1,000 + board feet per hour. It all depends on the size and style of mill you choose. Chainsaw Mills

There are quite a wide range of chainsaw powered sawmills on the market today. They are in the low price range compared to other sawmills, ranging fro $200 for a simple bracket and track system to $1,500 for some of the more complex designs.
